Imagine feeling unsafe in your own home. That’s how residents of our YWCA Fina House felt within their homes; unsafe. These women come to us with their children to escape home violence and to create an individualized program for a promising future. Did you know that when they first arrived at the YW:
- 81% were homeless?
- 87% were recovering from trauma – predominantly caused by relationship violence?
- 100% had little or no income?
They came to live at the YW to be safe from danger and to make a new start for themselves and their children. Though discouraged and fearful, somewhere in their hearts they had hope for a better life, free of violence and fear.
Your generous support enables the YW to offer these women safe housing, a supportive environment and a wide-range of services for them to build a new future. One that includes economic independence and permanent, safe, affordable housing for themselves and their children. While they’re at Fina House, we ask them to…
- Contribute financially to the cost of their housing because there is dignity in helping to pay your own way, as best you can;
- Learn how to be good, nurturing parents who will work hard to acquire the education and skills needed to support themselves and their families;
- Dream, hope and persevere to improve their lives.
