Statewide Education & Training to be Managed by YWCA

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health recently funded the YWCA of Greater Lawrence to coordinate two statewide training and education programs in partnership with DPH’s Women’s Health Network.

The Community Health Training Institute will offer educational programs to strengthen the skills of professional health care workers and educators, emphasizing cancer screening and chronic disease prevention resources.

The Peer Educator Training Program will work with seven regional outreach sites throughout the state, three of which are YWCAs. YWCA trainers in each region will educate women in breast and cervical cancer awareness so that they can later conduct “peer parties” with neighbors and friends to spread the word about early detection and to encourage women to receive free screenings.

Both programs will be managed by Margaret Roberts, Director of the Community Health Training Institute.

For more information, contact Margaret at 978-687-0331.
