| Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Roundtable with Senator Susan Tucker
A roundtable discussion on Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Victim Services was recently held at the YWCA, with Senator Susan Tucker, and included major service providers from the northeast region.
The YWCA was asked by Senator Tucker to convene this discussion, as she was interested in hearing directly from service providers about their needs in eradicating violence against women, trends they are observing, and legislation providers are interested in promoting.
For over two hours, the group shared with Senator Tucker their experiences, as well as shed light on pressing issues affecting survivors of Domestic and Sexual Violence. Among the topics discussed were:
- Homicides in Massachusetts
- The work of high-risk response teams
- Shelters
- Transitional and permanent housing issues
- Immigration issues
- Economic issues for survivors and their families
- Legislative priorities and implication
- Legal challenges and the need for judicial training
- Children’s issues in survivor families
- Sexual assault prevention issues
Senator Tucker was extremely engaging and receptive, taking notes of the group’s feedback and suggestions for her upcoming legislative session. At the end of the roundtable, Senator Tucker expressed her gratitude to all for being given this wonderful opportunity to interact with victim service providers and thanked those present for their time and passion for the work to end violence against women, children and families.
